Carlos and Mariel Escudero were born in Peru, the country that hosts the largest population of these gracious and loving animals. Nevertheless the turning point that made Carlos fall in love with the alpacas was when visited with our dear friends Ernesto and Jill Henriod at their alpaca farm near Christchurch, New Zealand in 2001. It was then that Carlos decided he would be an alpaca breeder upon his retirement from the World Bank.

Finally his dream became true in 2008, thanks to the mentoring of Bert and Ann Kramer of Annapaca Farm in Hagerstown, Maryland. We established our farmette near Frederick, Maryland in 2007 and named it Finca Escudero (Farmette Escudero).

We purchased our first heard of two females, Gipsy and Alleluya and two young males The General and Padang from Annapaca in January 2008 and later in March of the same year, Rigadoon, one female from Alpine Alpacas. Misti Rose, our first cria, was born mid-April. On June 2, 2008, our first six alpacas came to live with us and give new meaning to our life. Thus we are still rookies in this fantastic business and way of life.

Our alpaca breeder friends, Bert and Ann Kramer, are a constant source of advice and assistance. Our first crias were born in May and September of 2009, Aurelia and Grazie, respectively. In 2010, we have been blessed with two more crias, Vasco and Our Lady of Genevieve.
